postcode-normalisation¶
Date: 2026-09-09. Status: implemented.
Decision. pc_norm is the postcode uppercased with ASCII spaces removed, keeping any NRS split suffix. pc_base removes a validated A, B or C suffix only from a small-user record flagged as split. A large-user split flag never shortens its own postcode.
Reason. The suffix attaches to bases of five to seven characters, so length alone cannot identify it. A large-user split flag describes its linked small-user postcode.
Evidence. 458 current small-user split records, all ending in A, B or C; 226 ordinary postcodes with more than one current candidate.
