instance-location

Date: 2026-09-10. Status: superseded.

Decision. The Dagster instance, which is the provenance record, lives at .dagster inside the project and is backed up together with results/. Intermediate tables are kept outside it under data/work.

Reason. A record in a temporary path is not a record. Whether HIC wants it on a shared, backed-up path instead is an operational decision still to be taken; it is one environment variable either way.
